Yes yes, another tech blog. Thousands are out there, some copies, some linkers, some parrots and some few are source of original content. The purpose and vision for this particular one is the latter, and while we are moving from “Content is Key” to “Community is Key”, I feel there remains a niche for the individual. Which begs the question: What is my purpose for this blog?
1. Developer Resource
This blog is about Actionscript, Flash, Flex, and all technologies associated or affiliated with the same. You might see some posts on Silverlight, some on Javascript, some on general web development and some on the Business Strategy of Rich Internet Applications. Yet first and foremost it lives and thrives for the Flash ecosystem, intended as a resource for developers, coders, application architects and those aspiring to be such. You are my audience.
2. Software Distribution
I write quite a bit of code, and over the years the strategies of good software architecture and reusability have become almost second nature. As a result I’ve ended up with a rather substantial number of reusable classes whose only barrier to public distribution is documentation and a rigorous testing cycle. In addition to this, I am often enamored by a particular idea or solution that I simply must implement, and the resulting code- though I myself might never use it, might make someone else’s life easier.
3. Self Promotion
The last purpose is self promotion, which is rarely admitted but is a tacit goal of every blog, so much so that it’s practically impossible to achieve peer recognition and professional credibility without one. This holds doubly true for a technological field where no-one’s intimidated by the initial implementation hurdle, and personal domains are a dime a dozen. It is too easy to stay silent and be ignored, and very difficult to present a clear and distinct message.
This is also why you won’t find any ads on this blog- the goal is promotion, not prostitution, and I freely admit that trying to make a quick buck here strikes me somewhere behind the ethical cortex. The goal should be content, not dollars, and thus I make the conscious decision to avoid the slippery slope of snake-oil salesmanship.
In short, I’m here to write to my peers, distribute code and libraries that others might find useful, and gain some recognition. I hope you like what you read, and ask your patience as I get the content holes filled in.
